ADOPTION & ECONOMICS

Where functional information could create value.

A selected-case starting point, a proposed per-case commercial model, and the evidence needed to establish value for customers.

INITIAL ADOPTION

Start with a specific decision.

Our initial development focus is on cases where added functional information could influence the surgeon’s next trial or final assessment.

Selected cases first

  • Borderline or unstable trial constructs
  • Complex primary and revision reconstruction
  • Reassessment after a construct change

Broader potential over time

Routine assessment could support consistent documentation, teaching, and comparisons across cases.

The intended role is to complement surgeon-directed trialing in manual, navigated, and robotic workflows. Broad compatibility has not been established.

PROPOSED COMMERCIAL MODEL

Smart trialing. A per-case model.

A proposed hardware-and-software offering that combines functional assessment, a guided trialing workflow, and a recorded final assessment.

Potential customers
Hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers evaluating information that could support trialing decisions.
Potential strategic role
Development, distribution, or integration opportunities with orthopedic manufacturers and surgical technology platforms.
Adoption requirements
Useful information, manageable setup and training, compatible components, and a justified per-case cost.

Product configuration, pricing, and commercial arrangements remain under development.

CUSTOMER ECONOMICS

Value has to be demonstrated in use.

The economic case begins with whether the information is useful and whether the workflow justifies its time and cost.

01

Decision utility

Does the assessment help the surgeon evaluate an adjustment or support the final construct decision?

02

Workflow efficiency

Can guided comparison make successive trials more informative? Evaluation needs to include setup, interpretation, retrialing, and any added steps.

03

Per-case economics

How do product cost, equipment needs, training, and staff time compare with the value demonstrated in the intended setting?

04

Clinical and episode-cost impact

Whether use affects complications, downstream care, or total episode spending is a separate question for future evidence.

OrthoEdge has not yet demonstrated reduced trialing time, improved clinical outcomes, or cost savings.

PAYMENT CONTEXT · CJR-X

Why episode cost enters the conversation.

CMS’s Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement Expanded model provides context for hospital interest in the full cost of joint replacement care.

MODEL START2028

January 1

CJR-X begins January 1, 2028. Participating hospitals are assessed against episode spending targets covering eligible joint replacement procedures through 90 days after discharge.

The model covers eligible inpatient and outpatient hospital procedures. Participation exceptions include hospitals in TEAM, hospitals in Maryland, and certain hospitals outside the applicable payment systems.

This is hospital payment context. It does not establish separate reimbursement for OrthoEdge or demonstrate that the device reduces episode costs.
